7. Fabrication & Processing Comparison
Silver 800 Characteristics:

Machinability: Rated at approximately 60% relative to C36000. Clean chip evacuation; excellent machinability among silver alloys due to two-phase Cu-rich eutectic structure.

Weldability: Brazed with low-melting silver-copper-phosphorus or silver-copper-zinc fillers; close proximity of melting range (779°C-810°C) requires precise temperature control during joining.

Formability / Cold Working: Lower cold ductility than high-fineness silvers; requires intermediate annealing for heavy reductions.

Heat Treatment & Annealing: Annealed at 550°C to 600°C for 20 minutes; significant age-hardening response reaching up to 185 HV.

Silver 900 Characteristics:

Machinability: Rated at approximately 50% relative to C36000. Chips break more easily than in sterling silver; suitable for automatic screw machining.

Weldability: Readily brazed; requires active brazing fluxes to prevent surface cuprous oxide formation.

Formability / Cold Working: Readily cold coined and stamped; exhibits moderate strain hardening requiring controlled reduction schedules.

Heat Treatment & Annealing: Solution heat treated at 740°C followed by quench; precipitation hardenable at 280°C to 300°C to achieve 135-155 HV.
